The part-time remote Accountant role supports the financial operations of the college by assisting with recording financial transactions, preparing journal entries, and maintaining accurate ledgers.
Responsibilities
- Assist with recording and reconciling financial transactions
- Preparing journal entries
- Maintaining accurate ledgers
- Reviewing invoices and expense reports
- Supporting accounts payable and receivable processes
- Ensuring compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations
- Helping with basic financial reporting
- Variance analysis
- Documentation needed for audits or internal reviews
- Collaboration with finance team members and other departments to resolve discrepancies and provide timely financial information
Skills
- Strong skills in general accounting practices, including journal entries, reconciliations, and ledger maintenance
- Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) and the ability to work with financial data accurately and efficiently
- Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, invoice review, and expense tracking
- Ability to interpret and apply basic financial policies, procedures, and relevant regulations in a higher education or nonprofit environment
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management to handle part-time remote responsibilities effectively
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and explain financial information clearly
- Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality of financial and institutional information
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; relevant accounting experience in lieu of degree will be considered
