Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Volt Active Data is a company focused on real-time data innovation with its fast operational database, VoltDB. They are seeking an entry-level Technical Writer to design, create, and maintain product documentation, working closely with the User Experience Architect.
Responsibilities
- Learn the technical features and capabilities of our product set and how they apply to our customers' businesses
- Act as user advocate within engineering to align new features and interfaces with user needs and expectations
- Produce both reference and how-to technical documentation explaining how to use our products to enhance the customers' business processes
Skills
- Exceptional knowledge and use of the English language and grammar
- Ability to describe complex, deeply technical topics in clear, understandable, and well-structured text
- Self-driven, comfortable with a dynamic work environment where you are responsible for planning, scheduling, and managing your own work tasks within the larger project
- Ability to develop a working understanding of how customers use the product, so that documentation reflects real-world workflows and the tasks users are actually trying to accomplish
- Willingness to act as an advocate for the user by providing the development team with constructive feedback about the product, including usability issues, gaps, and points of confusion identified while documenting it
- Experience preparing instructional materials, such as user manuals, online help, or training
- Understanding of relational database concepts, including SQL
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration concepts
- Knowledge of at least one programming language
- Experience with a content management system
- Willingness to learn AI and LLM-based agent automation and apply it to documentation workflows such as automating generation of parts of the documentation from code
- Experience authoring in a structured text language such as Docbook, Dita, or LaTex
- Experience with a structured text editor (such as XMLmind, Oxygen, or Framemaker)
- Familiarity with some or all of the following technologies: Claude Code, Codex, or similar, Kubernetes, Java, Linux and bash, Git, Markdown, MKdocs
