About the Role Our client, a dynamic and innovative pharmaceutical company, is seeking a highly motivated Senior Process Chemist to join their development team in Grand Rapids, Michigan . This role is instrumental in optimizing and scaling up synthetic routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will work closely with R&D chemists and engineers to develop robust, safe, and cost-effective chemical processes suitable for large-scale manufacturing. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in organic chemistry, process development experience, and a thorough understanding of cGMP principles. This Hybrid position allows for a combination of on-site laboratory work and remote data analysis and reporting. Key Responsibilities Develop and optimize synthetic routes for APIs, focusing on yield, purity, safety, and scalability. Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement robust safety protocols. Scale up chemical processes from laboratory bench to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing scales. Perform Design of Experiments (DOE) to identify critical process parameters (CPPs) and optimize reaction conditions. Troubleshoot process-related issues and implement effective corrective actions. Characterize intermediates and final APIs using various analytical techniques (e.g., NMR, HPLC, GC, MS). Prepare detailed process development reports, batch records, and technology transfer documentation. Ensure all process development activities comply with cGMP regulations and ICH guidelines. Collaborate with analytical development, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams. Stay current with advancements in synthetic organic chemistry and process development technologies. Requirements Ph.D. or Master's degree in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in process chemistry within the pharmaceutical industry. Strong expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, including reaction optimization and mechanism understanding. Proven experience in process scale-up and technology transfer to manufacturing sites. Familiarity with process safety principles and hazard assessment. Proficiency in analytical techniques for chemical characterization. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Strong project management and organizational abilities. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Experience with crystallization development and solid-state characterization is a plus. This role requires a Hybrid presence in our Grand Rapids, Michigan facility.
